The principal goal of this course is to introduce students to the world of ancient Mediterranean mythology. We will focus chiefly on Greek mythology but will also explore its connections with the myths of the Near East and Rome. In addition, we will examine the relationship between myth and religion, and the ways in which myths have been represented and interpreted through a variety of media (including literary and pictorial) both in antiquity and later.
