CLA 120: Greek/Roman Historiography

CLA 120 will feature excerpts of Herodotus, Thucydides, Livy, Sallust and Tacitus. We will explore the nature and development of early historiography and its relationship to ethnography, rhetoric, and other forms of literature. Our central themes will be comparison of modern and ancient historiography and the legacy of Classical historiography and ethnography to Western historiography.  There will be 2 papers, a midterm and a final.
