Course Description: We are now living in the era of AI. The previous decades were the digital revolution. Historians divide up the early history of humans into the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age. We divide up time by the invention and implementation of new tools. This class tells the story of the ancient Mediterranean by focusing on ten key technologies, ranging from bronze production, boat-building, and aqueducts, to glass-blowing, pottery, and medicine. In addition to learning about other transformative nature of these tools, students will reproduce some ancient technologies as part of the coursework.
