Course Description: In this course, we will be reading Thucydides in Ancient Greek. The course assumes that students have had at least one year of college-level Ancient Greek or the equivalent. Students are welcome whose Greek is a bit rusty and will need accommodation for that. Thucydides, whose sole surviving work is an account of the Peloponnesian War down to 411 B.C.E, is one of the most important historians in the western canon because of his innovative and even modern-appearing approach to giving accounts of the past, and his ideas still have a lively following among historical and political theorists. Students will do necessary grammar review and write short pieces and a term paper on Thucydides' work.
Prerequisite(s): GRK 100; or consent of instructor.
- General Education: Arts & Humanities (AH); Writing Experience (WE).
