GRK 130 Readings in Later Greek: Epitaphic Poetry

Course Description: This course will focus on funerary inscriptions from throughout the Greek Mediterranean. The course will include translation of Greek and analysis of the imagery and significance of these elegant and haunting verses. In addition, we will explore the material history of these objects, the historical, social, and political context of their creation, and the complex interaction of word and object,.
