Latin 118: Roman Historians

Course Description: LAT 118 will explore the complex figure of Julius Caesar, whose life and death arguably marked the transition from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. We will read excerpts in Latin from Caesar’s Gallic War to understand his style and his self-presentation. We will also read excerpts in English from some of Caesar’s other writings as well as writings from his contemporaries and successors to gain a full picture of how this person’s life changed history.

Prerequisite(s): LAT 100; or equivalent.
